ENJOY & CONNECT.

Chris Anderton, BA (Hons) Graphic Design
Branding and UI design are my areas of interest, this is reflected within much of my showcased work. My major project has focused upon sustainability. I have been able to explore this by working with two clients that have sustainable living concepts at the core of their brand values.
Throughout my studies I have experimented with a diverse selection of tools. Different combinations of these have enabled me to push my boundaries within both traditional and contemporary mediums.
My primary aspiration is to one day direct my own design studio. The studio would specialise in brand positioning and strategy, digital design, packaging, print design and signage. However, before this I’m looking forward to gaining valuable studio experience within a junior graphic design role.
Joel Haney, BA (Hons) Graphic Design
I’ve wanted to pursue a career in graphic design for a long time, and although it was never an option for me at GCSE, I was able to study it at A level; where I was awarded an A*! During my time at university, I have been able to develop skills in many areas, including branding, typography, and animation. I have been fortunate to be able to apply the skills acquired to live briefs from St Helens Council, Penguin, and D&AD. This has allowed me to showcase a broad range of work.
Once graduated, I have hopes of working in either a design agency or an in-house design team. This would enable me to hone my skills in a specialised industry environment. I would also like to undertake further MA level study, so I can combine professional development with an increased knowledge of the subject.
Mike Lavery, BA (Hons) Graphic Design
Over the past 6 years I have studied Graphic Design at St Helens College and University Centre St Helens. Through my studies I have developed many design related skills, with a particular focus upon software and industrial fabrication processes. Exploring and applying these processes has been a key feature within my projects and has helped me to meet current design needs and challenges. I plan to pursue my interest in this area through an MSc in 3D Printing technology.
Ellis Long, BA (Hons) Graphic Design
My passion for graphic design began at an early age, from GCSE level to A levels to Degree. In the last three years of study, I have honed skills in many areas of design: illustration, branding and editorial. I enjoy participating in exciting live briefs including a mural design commemorating the 150th Anniversary of the borough of St Helens, presently displayed as a full window vinyl in the shopping centre, through to winning a competition to design the 2018 Christmas card for St Helens College.
Throughout my study, I have looked to push beyond boundaries, experimented with design methodologies and conceptual thinking. This has resulted in design approaches such as the Vortex branding proposal that challenge convention.
My future aspirations include teaching at secondary school level alongside being a freelance designer. Before applying for a PGCE, I want to have first-hand experience in a studio environment as I relish any kind of opportunity to learn new skills and increase my connections. I want to go into teaching to share my passion with a new generation of graphic designers and inspire a love for the subject as my teacher did for me.
Lucy Pierce, BA (Hons) Graphic Design
The past three years of university have presented many design challenges and allowed me to develop a variety of new skill sets. From working alongside clients to becoming familiar with current software, my perspective has been broadened and I’ve developed confidence and belief in my own ability. In the future, I would like to pursue opportunities for working within a design agency or studio. I am excited about further developing my skills and building upon what I have already learnt.
Leigh Smith, BA (Hons) Graphic Design
7 years ago, I happened upon graphic design at a college enrolment day and have never looked back.
Over the last three years I’ve learned to use my skills in a variety of different ways across live projects and competitions briefs, whilst discovering more about potential future career paths. I aspire to become a graphic designer within film and television as it has always been an area that interests and fascinates me.
